The Iceman

The man before the method.

Born in Sittard in 1959, one of nine children, with a twin. A canal at seventeen. A wife lost in 1995 and four children to raise. A hospital that finally agreed to test him. Everything the world calls the Iceman began as a way to survive.

The origin

He did not go looking for the cold. The cold was already waiting.

Wim Hof was seventeen when he felt a sudden urge to step into the freezing water of Amsterdam's Beatrixpark. He came out with a feeling he would spend the next fifty years trying to give to other people.

For decades he trained in obscurity — sitting in snow for hours, sleeping outside in winter, swimming under ice with a rope on his ankle — while raising a family and working odd jobs. His first student was his son Enahm, dipped into cold canal water as an infant.

Then the records came, and the cameras, and finally a hospital in Nijmegen.

Evidence over evangelism

The truth, including the hard parts.

This platform holds to one belief above the others: evidence over evangelism. That means the Records Hall says which records have since been broken, the Science pages say which studies were null, and the Beyond the Headlines page says what has been reported about Wim Hof and what he has said in response.

Beyond the Headlines
